Swatchmas Day 23: My Top 5 Liquid Set Lipsticks from Melt Cosmetics

On the twenty-third day of Swatchmas, I give you my five favorite Liquid Set Lipsticks from Melt Cosmetics! I know I’ve said it a million times before, but I LOVE Melt and LOVE their liquid lipstick formula! It’s very liquidy, but not runny, and it’s extremely pigmented so a little bit goes a long way. Once it’s set, it’s a beautiful matte finish and wears well all day, as long as you stay away from eating oily or greasy foods (but that’s how any liquid lip is).

Melt’s Liquid Set Lipsticks each contain, on average, 3.36 ml / .11 oz of product and sell for $19 each from the Melt Cosmetics website. They do have sales from time to time, though, so if you sign up for their emails and you’ll know when you can get these at a discounted price! Melt Cosmetics is a cruelty-free brand and ALL of these liquid lipsticks are vegan!

The Liquid Set Lipsticks featured in this post are:

  • Rebound: Sensual tuscan red (aka literally the perfect rosy lip) 3.12 ml / .10 oz
  • Roc: Deep warm rose (also another perfect rosy lip) 3.75 ml / .13 oz
  • Death Cherry: True deep cherry red (flattering red on EVERYONE) 3.66 ml / .12 oz
  • Velvet Room: Deep black cherry (perfect dark lip on all skintones) 3.17 ml / .107 oz

Swatchmas Day 11: My Top 5 Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipsticks

On the eleventh day of Swatchmas, I give you my five favorite Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipsticks from Fenty Beauty by Rihanna! This formula is so creamy so it doesn’t dry out the lips, which is great, especially this time of year if you live in a colder, drier climate. They’re all very highly pigmented, comfortable and easy to apply and wear, and they have a soft, natural matte finish. As you can see from the photo below, some of these look almost new, but it’s because I’ve repurchased them or these are the backup lipsticks that I typically keep in my bag.

All of these lipsticks are permanent colors and are available directly from the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna website, or from Sephora’s website, Sephora stores, or Sephora inside JCPenney. Each one sells for $18 and contains 1.7 g / 0.06 oz of product. Fenty Beauty is a cruelty-free brand.

The Mattemoiselle Plush Matte lipsticks featured in this post are:

  • Spanked:   Dusty rose
  • Griselda:   Bold burgundy
  • Ma’Damn:   Royal red
  • Flamingo Acid:   Bright berry
  • Candy Venom:   Electric pink

Swatchmas Day 5: My Top 5 TIME Los Angeles Luxe Matte Liquid Lipsticks

On the fifth day of Swatchmas, I give you my five favorite Luxe Matte Liquid Lipsticks from TIME Los Angeles. When it comes to matte liquid lipsticks, these are always the first ones I reach for, both for myself and in my freelance kit, so I had to share them with you guys!

TIME’s Luxe Matte Liquid Lipsticks have a thin, but highly pigmented formula, so they never feel sticky or heavy on the lips and are very easy to apply, comfortable, and long wearing. Each tube contains 6.3 g / 0.22 fl. oz of product and sells for $16 individually, although you can get some of these in sets, which costs $60 for 6 Luxe Matte Liquid Lipsticks. TIME Los Angeles is a cruelty-free brand.

My Top 5 Luxe Matte Liquid Lipsticks are:

  • Blushbaby:   A mid-tone dusty mauve (vegan)
  • Crimson:   A deep dark red
  • Lookin’ Cute, Feelin’ Cute:   A deep brown nude

Swatchmas Day 23: My Top 5 Melt Cosmetics Lipsticks

On the twenty-third day of Swatchmas, I give you my five favorite lipsticks from Melt Cosmetics! I know, I know… It’s another Melt post, but I’ve been using the lipsticks from this brand since literally the first week they came out and to this day, I still tend to reach for them before any other brand of regular, bullet-type lipsticks. Their pigmentation is insane and their formula may be incredibly matte, but they’re still very comfortable to wear all day long. These five colors aren’t necessarily the ones I’m using the most at the moment, but I went through all of them and these are the one that I’ve used the most over time. I hope that you all like these as much as I do.

If you want to pick up some lipsticks from Melt, you can head to their website at http://www.meltcosmetics.com. Each lipstick sells for $19 and contains about 4 g / 0.14 oz of product. Melt Cosmetics is  cruelty free company and all of the lipsticks featured in this post are vegan.

To keep up with new posts on here, be sure to sign up for email/wordpress reader notifications. If you don’t wanna do that, you can always follow me on Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. You can find me @ lesley_makeup on all three platforms!

The five Melt Cosmetics lipsticks featured in this post are:

  • Voyeur:   Cool toned, glazed pecan shade (ultra-matte)
  • Cherried:   Dark, blackened, wine stained plum with brown-ish undertones (ultra-matte)
  • Lucretia:   Blood red mixed with demure nude aka warm toned, rosy pink (ultra-matte)
  • Shady Lady:   Shadowy magenta and vaguely hot pink (ultra-matte)
  • Pink Heels:   Warm toned pink with a subtle coral undertone (ultra-matte)

Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipsticks

This is going to be a VERY brief post for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipsticks.

They went on sale today for $5 each (limit two), as well as their single eye shadows which are priced at $20 for four of them, including a palette to put the shadows in! The lipstick sale was a bit of an “oops” and was supposed to be $5 WITH the purchase of the eye shadows, but because they’re an awesome company, they decided to honor their pricing mistake and just put them on sale anyway!

I will review each of these in depth at a later date, but I wanted to get this post up so you all can check out these amazing lipsticks while they’re still on sale. I know the swatches are a bit sloppy, but they still accurately represent the colors!

If you want to keep up with me and see what I’m testing and reviewing, go follow me on Twitter and Instagram and be sure to add me on Snapchat too… They’re all under the name lesley_makeup! I love hearing from my followers and readers so hit me up if you have any questions or if there’s anything you’d like to see in a look or on the blog!

I really, really like this formula. It reminds me of MAC’s Matte finish lipsticks, but not the drier Retro Mattes that tug on the lips. While I haven’t worn all of these shades yet, I can still verify that each one feels creamy and is highly pigmented, with complete coverage and perfect color payoff. Wear time for the ones I have worn, which is over half of them, has been a consistent 6 to 8 hours, with most of the fading occurring in the center of the lip at first after about hour 4. Wearing a liner with these will increase the overall wear time and also keep them from feathering outside your lip line, even though they barely even do that to begin with.

Normally, these sell for $18 each and contain 3.5 g / 0.12 oz of product. You can purchase these from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Website. The sale price of $5 is only valid until 11:59pm PST (as in West Coast/Cali time), Saturday January 20th, so pick these up for that price while you still can!

Kylie Cosmetics: Velvet Singles

Since there’s a restock later today, I figured this would be a good time to put this post up! This review contains nine out of eleven of the Velvet Liquid Lipstick Singles. The other two, Commando and Birthday Suit, will be reviewed soon in another post because I got them in the set from the Vacation collection this past summer (don’t worry, I’ll find you all dupes for the limited colors in that set).

Anyway, I’m going to try to keep this pretty short and sweet since there are so many liquid lips to cover in this post. Overall, I really like this formula because it’s super comfortable and very pigmented. This coming weekend, I’ll try to post a look using one or two of these on here and Instagram so be sure to follow me! I usually give updates on my Snapchat and Twitter Twitter too… All of which are under the name @lesley_makeup.

The packaging for these is a basic matte black with KYLIE printed in a glossier black finish, as opposed to the brighter packaging of the Liquid Lip Sets. The component (tube) itself is like the other permanent Kylie Cosmetics Liquid Lip Products with her signature on the front and drippy design around the top of the tube.

The applicator is a typical, small, somewhat fuzzy doe foot wand that applies the product evenly. It’s not as tapered as the wands you find in most other liquid lipsticks, but it’s still pretty easy to get a precise application with.

According to Kylie Cosmetics, “The Velvet Liquid Lipstick has high intensity pigment for a full coverage lip. This long wearing, ultra pigmented liquid lipstick contains moisturizing ingredients that glide on for a creamy matte look that does not dry down.”

As I mentioned, this liquid lipstick formula is incredibly comfortable to wear and isn’t too sticky like a gloss or too dry like a matte liquid lipstick. It does seem to be slightly nourishing even after wearing it all day and doesn’t leave my lips feeling chapped or dehydrated. The finish is closer to a satin or a soft matte. There’s not a glossy type of sheen once it sets… Instead, there is a muted, velvety finish that’s similar to if you put a balm on top of a matte lipstick. By the way, when I say “set” that doesn’t mean that these completely dry down, as stated in the brand’s info above. It’s definitely not transfer proof or even transfer resistant, but it does wear pretty well. These are all really pigmented so you don’t have to apply a ton of product for opaque coverage. One downside to these is that a couple of the shades stain pretty intensely and VERY quickly! Another downside to some people may be the sweet scent which these have… It fades not terribly long after you apply your liquid lip but to me, sometimes it’s a little overwhelming and gross. I haven’t noticed that these have a flavor. As usual, I’ll go into more detail in the individual reviews below so if you’d like to read those, keep scrolling down.

The Velvet Liquid Lipsticks sells for $16 from www.kyliecosmetics.com. You may also be able to purchase these at her pop-up shops but don’t quote me on that! Each tube contains 3 g / 0.11 fl oz of product, which is on the same level as similar products from MAC or Anastasia Beverly Hills, among other brands. Kylie Cosmetics is a cruelty free company and while I’m not sure this applies to the Velvet Liquid Lipsticks, the website says that “all shades of The Kylie Lip Kit℠ are vegan”.

I will post liners and dupes for these sometime this weekend. I apologize for not getting it done immediately but I’ve been sick so I’m currently typing this from my bed rather than my desk where I keep all of my makeup. I wanted to get this post up ASAP today so you can check these out before the Velvet Liquid Lipsticks are restocked!

Basic

Basic:   Basic is described as a “midtone taupe.” It’s a medium, cool toned taupey nude with a soft matte finish. I can definitely see this being wearable by just about anyone, but if you have dark to deep skin, you’ll definitely want to pop on a liner to create a more ombre look with Basic… Otherwise it may look a little too cool toned and washed out.

Basic feels creamy but not so thick that it’s difficult to apply evenly. This particular color didn’t seem to dry down as quickly as some other Velvets, so it did still have a bit of a soft sheen in this photo. It does look like more of a soft matte/velvet finish after it’s been on for a while. Color payoff is intense, although on me, Basic actually looks cooler on the lips than it does in the tube. Coverage is fully opaque but I did have to dip into the tube once for the top lip and once for the bottom lip, which may be partially due to the small applicator rather than the product itself. I got about 3 hours of wear before it began to fade in the center of the lip and close to 6 hours before it faded anywhere else.

Boy Bye

Boy Bye:   Boy Bye is a “pinky mauve” according to the Kylie Cosmetics website. It’s a medium, cool toned, dusty rose with a velvety finish. This color seems like it would be suitable for all skin tones, but like many other light to medium, cool toned lipsticks, you’ll definitely want to use this with a liner if you have dark to deeper skin tones so everything blends evenly and doesn’t look too harsh or washed out. I honestly think that Boy Bye is my favorite out of all the Velvet Liquid Lipsticks because this color is one of those “your-lips-but-better” type of lipsticks that works for just about any look or occasion!

The formula for this Velvet lippie is comfortable and consistent with the others, applying easily. Boy Bye seemed to “set” a little more quickly than Basic did. Color payoff is great but it does look a little darker and cooler toned on the lips (for me, anyway). Coverage is full and even. Wear time was about 4 hours before it started to fade in the center, and closer to 6 or 7 before I really had to touch up all over my lips.

Brat

Brat:   This color is described as a “terra-cotta plum”. It’s a medium to medium-dark, brownish plum with a velvet finish. I have noticed that this can look warmer or cooler toned depending on who is wearing it, and even seems to pull more brown or more plum depending on whether I’m spray tanned or my naturally fair self. Maybe that sounds weird but I kind dig it since it makes Brat adaptable and easy for anyone to wear.

Brat has the same liquidy, yet creamy formula that glides onto the lips as all of the other Velvet Liquid Lipsticks do… Like Boy Bye, Brat doesn’t stay shiny very long, but you still have plenty of time to apply it and blend a liner in with it or layer it if needed. Color payoff is great and full of pigment. Coverage is totally opaque without having to use much product. Wear time is about 2 to 3 hours in the center of the lip and 5 to 6 hours for the rest of the lip. I will warn you that this shade STAINS SO QUICKLY and NOT in a good way! I had this on for about three minutes when I photographed the lip photo and it left behind a bright, very pinky-plum stain which lasted for several hours, even after using a makeup wipe, washing my face, and repeatedly applying lip balm. When I wore this out one day, the stain lasted even longer once my lipstick had faded and I wiped the remainder of it off.

Goals:   The Kylie Cosmetics website calls Goals a “soft strawberry”. It’s a medium to medium-dark, warm toned pinky-red with some brownish undertones. It’s kind of like Brat’s slightly brighter, warmer toned sister, and in my opinion, is a little more wearable for day to day looks. In my opinion, Goals is going to be a great color for spring and summer!

This formula felt just like the other Velvets and applied well. Color payoff is really nice but, like many of the other Velvets, Goals seems to look darker on my lips than it did in the tube. Coverage is exceptional and full using little product. Wear time was the average 4 hours around the center of the lip and about 6 hours for the rest of the lip.

Karma

Karma:   On the website, Karma is described as a “midtone raspberry”. It’s a medium-dark to dark, bold berry color with cool, purple undertones and a velvet to almost satin-like finish. I say that because it takes Karma a while to dry down to it’s true velvet finish and looks like most other satin formulas until it does. It’s a color that will get noticed and may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I think it’s fun and bright!

Karma felt a little creamier than some of the other Velvets but still applied easily and evenly. Color payoff was great and it actually looked a bit darker and more subdued once I put it on. Coverage was great and fully opaque. Wear time was about 4 hours in the center of the lip and between 6 or 7 for the rest of the lip.

Unfortunately, Karma stained my lips SO BAD! It was much more intense and longer lasting than the stain that Brat left behind. When I wore this initially, I had it on for a while so I figured that’s why my lips remained bright magenta-pink the REST OF THE FRICKIN DAY, but no, even after having this on for a whopping two minutes to photograph it, it stained my lips almost as badly as it did when I had it on for five hours… I used a makeup wipe, MAC Cleanse Off Oil, washed my face, held a cotton pad with micellar water up to my lips for over a minute and NOTHING got rid of the stain. I’m sitting here 6 hours later after eating, having tea and water, and putting Blistex on my lips about 9,000 times and the stain is still there. The photos below show the staining AFTER removing it two hours earlier! Also, I know it looks like I went around my lips with concealer or something because the shape is really precise for a stain, but this is after I took off Karma and the foundation around my lips!

In addition to staining quite heavily, Karma also seemed to irritate my lips and caused a few very, very small, itchy bumps to pop up quite quickly. There’s one ingredient on the list that stands out as something that may also be shared with Brat’s formulation due to their cool, plummy undertones, and that ingredient is Manganese Violet (CI 77742). I don’t recall seeing this ingredient very frequently in other lipsticks and liquid lipsticks that I have, but I do remember it being in some of Revlon’s Balm Stain lip products, so perhaps it does cause staining? I’ll definitely be looking into this more deeply and I’ll keep you all updated!

Low Key:   Low Key is referred to as a “warm pinky coral” on the Kylie Cosmetics website… It’s a medium, very warm toned, peachy-coral with a hint of pink and a velvet finish once it sets. I really like this color and feel like it would look great on anyone and with all kinds of looks!

This shade felt a little more liquidy or slippery than some of the other Velvets but still applied okay, aside from not wanting to stick to the center of my lip at all. It also took a little longer than most of the others to set to it’s soft matte/velvet finish. Color payoff was lovely but once I put it on, it appeared a bit warmer on my lips than it did in the tube. Coverage was opaque and even. Wear time was 2 to 3 hours in the center of my lip, as I had trouble getting this to stick to that area on more than one occasion, but it stayed on the rest of my lips for around 5 to 6 hours before fading.

Punk:   Punk is a “warm plum brown” with a velvet finish, but it does take a little while to “set” and lose the sheen. On me, this color is mostly a dusty, almost greige, chocolate with warm plum undertones. This is definitely the kind of color that will look a little different on everyone, depending on your skin tone. Personally, I love this type of color, especially for winter, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite vampy lipsticks.

This Velvet Liquid Lip felt very similar to Karma and Low Key and has a thinner, more slippery feeling formulation that stays shiny for a little while before it turns into a velvet/soft matte finish. That said, the thinner formula doesn’t seem to effect the color payoff or coverage at all and both of those are fantastic! Wear time was around 3 hours in the center area of my lips, and closer to 6 hours overall.

Savage:   On the Kylie website, Savage is described as a “warm apricot nude” and has a soft matte finish. To me, it is a medium, warm toned peachy nude that also has some mauve hues to it. This is a really wearable, versatile type of color that can be subdued or brightened up, depending on what liner you pair it with. Savage is one of my favorite Velvets because it works with so many looks!

Savage feels creamy, but still thin enough to glide on without any problems. It does take a moment to set to the more velvet finish, but it doesn’t take so long as shades like Punk and Karma. Color payoff is awesome, though it did seem to look a little darker and warmer once I had it on my lips. Coverage is even and opaque without having to apply a lot of product. I’m not typically one to reach for colors like this, but I liked it a lot more once I put it on than I did seeing it in the tube.

Like Punk, Karma, and a few of the other Velvets, the texture of Surprise Me felt a little thinner and took a little while to set and lose the sheen, but it still applied well. TIME Los Angeles – Luxe Matte Liquid Lipstick – Festive Bundle

As a followup to my last post, this is the other Luxe Matte Liquid Lipstick bundle from TIME Los Angeles. These six liquid lipsticks are warm toned nudes that are sure to make you think of fall colors, as well as a couple of PERFECT reds for the holidays, so it’s fitting that this is called the “Festive” bundle!

This post is going to focus on the individual shades and rundowns for each of them, but if you want more in depth details about the formula, packaging, application, etc, go check out the post for the Cool Spectrum bundle here:

I love staying in touch with my readers, so don’t be afraid to hit me up on there if you have a product question or just want to say hi!

If you want to pick these up, you can get them for $16 each or you can buy the whole Festive Bundle for $60. You save $36 by purchasing these as a bundle… If you bought them each individually, it would end up costing you $96! To get these pretty babies, you can head over to www.shoptimela.com.  If you want to save 10% on your order, simply use the code ILOVEASHLEY. And no, I don’t make a penny off of that. That’s the discount code from Ashley Wagner… I’m just trying to save you all some money!

Each liquid lipstick contains 6.3g / 0.22 fl oz of product, which is a lot! If you compare it to most other brands, you’re getting half again to twice as much product in the same size tube that nearly everyone else uses. If you buy these as a bundle, you’re paying about half of what you would for a liquid lipstick from a brand like ABH or MAC (who has a similar, but drier formula). Even when purchased individually, you’re getting a product that’s only a few dollars more than something you’d find in a drugstore, so I’d still consider them a steal!

The formula for these liquid lipsticks is consistent within the bundle and feels like the same awesome quality that the Luxe Matte Liquid Lipsticks in the Cool Spectrum bundle have. They’re very easy to apply and feel lightweight and comfortable to wear. My favorite thing is that this formula isn’t drying like many matte liquid lipsticks are… As I mentioned, they remind me of MAC’s Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours, but they don’t seem to dry out so much as the day goes on. You don’t have to worry about these fading or wearing off quickly, either, which is great since this bundle is full of bold colors. Wear time is an average of 8 hours but I’ll go into more details about how each lippie wears in the individual rundowns below. Oh and last but not least, these are vegan and cruelty free!

Tip: Be sure to gently exfoliate and moisturize your lips, then blot off any excess lip balm before applying these! If your lips are chapped or have any dry patches, the product can cling to and emphasize that. Also, drink plenty of water! Nothing makes your lips look naturally full and pouty quite like being well hydrated!

Macchiato

Macchiato:   On the website, this is described as a “caramel macchiato warm nude shade, perfect for fall! Best suited for fair-dark skin tones”. It’s a medium, warm toned spice infused nude type of color that immediately makes me want a pumpkin spice latte. Call me basic all you want, but that’s what what it brings to mind for me! Once it sets, it has a perfectly matte finish. Macchiato is pretty unique and perfect for fall. It works on nearly any skin tone, though I can imagine this being especially gorgeous on medium dark skin tones. Keep in mind that even if you may not initially see this as your new favorite color, you can play around with liners if you want to tone it down a bit… I’ll list a few of my favorites below!

The texture for Macchiato was buttery without being too thick. It glides on and applies very evenly. What I like about this formula is that it gives you time to blend it out or blend it with another shade or liner before it dries but sets to a beautiful, soft matte finish. You can also layer this if you need to, but that shouldn’t be necessary since Macchiato is very pigmented and has great color payoff. It’s also opaque without having to use much product. I noticed a little fading in the center of the lip after about 5 hours and a few cups of coffee but the edges didn’t begin to fade until hour 6 or 7.

Dupes:   I honestly couldn’t find a dupe for Macchiato… The closest I got was Ashton from Anastasia Beverly Hills but it’s darker and more reddish-brown.

Liners:   There are several liners that you can use with Macchiato that will change it up a bit. The closest in color that I found was MAC’s Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Etcetera, though it’s still less warm toned. A few nudes and browns that you can use are MAC’s Lip Pencils in Stripdown, Chestnut, Cork, and Hover. If you want a liner that’s warmer toned and has a hint more reddish-brown to it, you can try Spice, Chicory, Auburn, or Mahogany.

Foliage

Foliage:   According to the website, Foliage is “a dark terra-cotta shade inspired by the beautiful changing of the leaves in autumn. Best suited for fair-dark skin tones.” It’s a medium dark, warm toned, bold terra-cotta color with a soft matte finish. Like Macchiato, it works on all skin tones, but you may want to pair it with a liner to switch up the color or tone it down if you aren’t used to colors like this! I admit that I’m used to wearing dark colors, nudes, and reds so this was a little different for me. I didn’t fall in love with Foliage until I put it on with some Chestnut Lip Pencil from MAC and now I can’t get enough of that combo!

Foliage feels liquidy and smooth without being runny, so it applies like a dream! The color payoff is fantastic, though for me, it did look a little darker on the lips than it does in the tube. Coverage is full and pretty even, though I did notice a teeny bit of patchiness near the center of my bottom lip. Luckily, that’s an easy fix since you can layer these liquid lipsticks without them pilling up and getting all blotchy! Wear time was around 5 hours before I had any fading in the center of my lip and closer to 8 hours before Foliage began to fall, errrr fade (bad seasonal puns FTW), around the edges of my lips.

Dupes:   This is another unique shade that was very difficult to find a dupe for. The closest liquid lipstick I found was ABH’s Ashton, which is still much more mauve toned.

Liners:   Like Macchiato, you can really play around with liners to play up or tone down this shade. A few of my favorite neutral MAC Lip Pencils to wear with Foliage are Stripdown, Cork, and Chestnut. For something that’s on the warmer side, you can use Hover, Spice, Chicory, or Mahogany.

Velvet Rouge

Velvet Rouge:   This liquid lipstick is “a soft rouge color inspired by royal velvet from the renaissance era. Best suited for fair-dark skin tones.” Let me just start by saying that I LOVE this color!!! This has quickly become my every day, go-to color… I wear it so much that I need a bundle that’s nothing but Velvet Rouge! Anyway, It’s a medium to medium dark, neutral to slightly warm toned mauvey red with a soft matte finish. Velvet Rouge really is one of those colors that is perfect on all skin tones for any occasion. Need a lip to go with a dramatic eye and a fierce wing? Velvet Rouge. Want something that’s like your-lips-but-better on a light makeup day? Velvet Rouge. Getting married and need the perfect lip for a bride? VELVET ROUGE! Okay I’ll stop, but you really do need this color.

This Luxe Matte Liquid Lipstick felt a little more creamy than some of the others in this bundle, but it still wasn’t too thick, so it applied easily. It also felt a bit softer on my lips once it set. Both color payoff and coverage were perfect using very little product. Wear time was about 5 to 6 hours on the center of the lip and 7 on the rest of the lip before any fading occurred. It did cling to the majority of my lip for 8 to 9 hours, though, so touchups were minimal.

Dupes:   There are quite a few liquid lipsticks that are similar to Velvet Rouge, but none that are the exact same… A few from Anastasia Beverly Hills that are close are Allison, which is lighter and much cooler toned, Kathryn, which is darker and more of a cool toned mauve/pink, as well as Currant and Dazed, which are both considerably darker. MAC’s Burnt Spice Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour is lighter and more nude/mauve. Kat Von D’s Lolita Everlasting Liquid Lipstick is is darker, cooler, and less pink. Morphe’s Vinyl Matte Liquid Lip from their collab with Ourfa Zinali, is similar, but more brown toned.

Liners:   My favorite liners to use with Velvet Rouge are Morphe’s Color Pencil in Vinyl (also in the limited edition collab with Ourfa Zinali), and MAC’s Soar, which is a little more pinky-mauve than Velvet Rouge but they work together perfectly for me! A few more MAC Lip Pencil’s that I like with this liquid lipstick are Half-Red, which is a little deeper and cooler toned, and Auburn, which is warmer and darker but creates a beautiful type of dimension.

Wine Country

Wine Country:   Wine Country is a “a mild wine color inspired by the vineyards in “wine country”. Best suited for fair-deep skin tones.” It’s a dark, slightly cool toned red with pinky, wine infused undertones and a soft matte finish. If you aren’t someone who is crazy about super bright reds, or if some reds end up looking too dark and vampy on you, you’d probably love Wine Country! It’s a classic type of color that’s going to flatter anyone of any age or skin tone and is a great shade for fall and winter.

It felt quite creamy, much like Velvet Rouge, and applied with a very smooth texture. Color payoff is superb and coverage was 100% opaque with one quick swipe from the applicator. Wear time was around 6 hours around the center of the lip, and and impressive to 8 or 9 hours around the outer part of my lip. It didn’t stain, either, but lasted on the rest of my lips for nearly 10 hours! I had this on from the time I got ready for work until after dinner and only touched up twice that day.

Dupes:   Wine Country was a little tricky to find a dupe for… ABH’s Currant Liquid Lipstick is slightly darker and more red. Dazed, also from ABH, is also a little darker and more berry toned.

Liners:   You can use so many different liners with this lip, depending on if you want it to be more reddish or more wine stained. A few good reds to use are MAC’s Lip Pencils in Cherry, Brick, and Half-Red. You can also use MAC’s Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in He Said, She Said, which is a cool, berry toned red. A few others that are more of a berry to wine shade are Melt Cosmetics’ Ecstacy and Kink, MAC’s Pro Longwear Lip Pencils in Ms Diva and Dark Out, or MAC’s Regular Lip Pencil formula in Burgundy or Currant.

Cranberry

Cranberry:   This is described as a “pinky-red winter cranberry shade inspired by the holidays! Best suited for fair-deep skin tones.” It’s truly the PERFECT holiday red! It’s a medium dark, bold, slightly cool toned pinky-red with a matte finish. This is such a classic red that any age or skin tone can wear this, day or night, holiday or not. It’s great too because reds like this can dress up any look or make you look and feel more put together on days when the rest of your makeup is minimal!

Cranberry’s texture isn’t as creamy as Velvet Rouge or Wine Country, but it’s still lovely and applies like the other Luxe Matte Liquid Lipsticks that I’ve reviewed. Color payoff is intense without having to apply much product and coverage is full and even without any layering necessary. Surprisingly, it didn’t stain my lips, even after having it on all day! Wear time was fantastic and I didn’t notice any fading in the center of my lips until I had this on for about 6 hours, and 8 to 10 hours for the rest of my lips!

Dupes:   I actually thought that it would be easy to find a dupe for this because it’s such a classic red, but I was wrong! I found a few liquid lipsticks that are close but still not perfect dupes by any means… These are ABH’s Sarafine, which is much brighter and has more of a blue undertone; ABH’s Currant, which is darker and has more of a brown/neutral undertone, and ABH’s Tulip, which is lighter, brighter, and more pinky toned.

Liners:   You don’t have to use a liner that’s the exact same type of red but MAC’s Pro Longwear Lip Pencils in Kiss Me Quick and He Said, She Said are close. A few good MAC Lip Pencils that you can try are Cherry, or even Brick and Burgundy, which are a little darker and will create more contrast. Melt also has a few AllDay/Everyday Lip Liners that I like to use with Cranberry, such as Ambrosia, Kink, and Ecstasy.

Crimson (I’ll redo this pic soon!)

Crimson:   Crimson is a “deep dark red inspired by the “vampy lip” of fall and winter that we all love! Best suited for fair-deep skin tones.” It’s like the pretty, goth sister to the other liquid lipsticks in the Festive bundle… It’s a deep, neutral to cool red with a hint of berry undertones. This is perfect for all skin tones, so long as you want to get noticed!

The texture of Crimson felt like the usual lightweight, non drying formula but it applied a little differently than the others… I say that because this is the only Luxe Matte Liquid Lipstick in this bundle, or out of any of them, that gave me any trouble (although it was only a little bit). You can see in the swatch photo waaaaay up there that this liquid lip can be a little patchy or streaky. This issue wasn’t so noticeable after layering it but I could still see some unevenness on my bottom lip. I find this to be a common thing with a great deal of deep red liquid lipsticks from any brand, though, so I’m not going to deduct a ton of points for that. Even though the coverage wasn’t perfect, the color payoff is great and looks very similar to how it does in the tube, though it may appear a little darker once it’s on if you have fair skin like I do. Wear time was on the shorter side with Crimson… I noticed fading in the center of my lips around hour 4, with the edges of my lip needing to be touched up after about 6 and a half to 7 hours. It didn’t stain, which is nice, and you can extend the wear time and opacity/coverage of this liquid lipstick by layering it over a liner applied all over the lip!

Dupes:   Heathers from Anastasia Beverly Hills is pretty close but it does have more of a deep, blue/brown based red undertone. MAC’s Carnivorous Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour is also similar but is slightly darker.

Liners:   Depending on just how bold, red, or vampy you want this to look, you can use SO many liners with Crimson! A few of my favorites are MAC’s Lip Pencils in Mahogany, Burgundy, Currant, Vino, and Nightmoth. You can also opt for MAC’s Pro Longwear Lip Pencils in Ms Diva, Dark Out, and Bespoken For if you want a longer wearing liner.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics x Manny MUA Collection & Bundle

Welcome to the best part of this trio of posts covering this collaboration! This one is going to be a brief summary of the products so I can give you all the juicy details and fill you in on how and when to get your paws on the entire bundle.

I know it took a while for me to get this up, but as always, I wanted to extensively test everything so I could give you all my honest opinion. I know I raved about everything in this collection, but I mean it when I say that this is one of the best launches in the makeup world for 2017 so far. It’s honestly going to be hard for many companies to beat something like this!

As far as I know, this collection is limited edition. Pictured above are the three products that make up this bundle. That means that when you buy this as a set, you get Eclipse Skin Frost as well as Daddy and I’m Shook Velour Liquid Lipsticks for only $50. This can be purchased on www.jeffreestarcosmetics.com. Normally each lippie costs $18 and Skin Frosts sell for $29, so you’re saving $15 and getting a great deal!

Now for the bad news… As of today, 4/29/17, the bundle is currently sold out, as is Daddy Velour Liquid Lipstick. However, according to Jeffree’s Instagram, the bundle will be restocked in early May! You can still buy them individually, except Daddy of course, so check the little tip below on how you can save some money on these products!

If you use the code MANNYMUA it will take 10% off of the products that are part of this collection! Keep in mind that code only works on the these products individually but does not work on the bundle since it’s already offered at a discounted price… What this means is that if you add I’m Shook and Eclipse to your cart either by themselves or along with other JSC products, the 10% will be deducted from those two products.

As you can see above, the Jeffree x Manny collaboration comes in absolutely stunning special packaging! When you receive this, there’s a sleeve over the box itself that has both the Jeffree Star star logo as well as Manny’s signature crescent moon on it in holographic silver. Once you remove the sleeve, you’ll see a very classy, yet still edgy matte black box with satin finish Jeffree Star and Manny MUA logos all over it… When you flip the lid open, that’s when you might get blinded by the bright, multidimensional, holographic silver insert along with the uniquely patterned/textured boxes! Manny and Jeffree put SO much thought and effort into every single detail in this collaboration, which I really dig! I think it’s great supporting smaller companies that put so much love into their products. I really appreciate it when people want to make their customers feel special and have fun opening a new package that’s been delivered, so thank you, Jeffree and Manny, for bringing that unboxing-like experience to the consumer!

On top of being pretty, both in the boxes and on the face, these products are ALL free from parabens and gluten, as well as vegan and cruelty-free! We all know how much both Manny and Jeffree love their fur babies, so I think it’s great that they show their compassion for animals by making cruelty-free products. ❤

I’m Shook

If you were wondering what happened with shipping delays after this collaboration launched, read the couple of little paragraphs below… If you just DGAF, keep scrolling past until you get to the fun stuff!

I know there was a major issue with shipping delays, which I experienced as well since I had to set my alarm to buy this collection just the same as anyone else did! My package, as well as many others, took nearly two full weeks to show up on my doorstep after getting both an order confirmation and shipping confirmation and tracking number. Was it frustrating? Yes, but it was also worth the wait!

Based on what I learned from the JSC customer service team, as well as what Jeffree Star brought up on social media, there were just too many orders to physically go out to the postal service within a few days, so while you may have received a tracking number, that means it was printed and slapped onto your box of goodies, but it may have still been sitting in the warehouse waiting for USPS to pick it up and send it out… You have to keep in mind that the sheer volume of orders they received and products they had to box up can be overwhelming. Jeffree Star Cosmetics is a small, private company that just doesn’t have the manpower that someone like MAC, Ulta, Sephora, or even Anastasia Beverly Hills has. They ship out of ONE warehouse, not numerous ones that are scattered all over the US like many larger companies have. Basically, they did the best they could and I have a feeling they may not have even expected to have so many orders places so quickly! When I had questions, their customer service was prompt to respond and put my mind at ease. I understand why many of you were put off by the delay in receiving your packages, but try to have patience when restock comes! I promise you that they appreciate your business very much and will get your products to you ASAP. I’m not saying any of that because I was asked to or anything either… My family owns a small business, which I help run, and it is honestly impossible to please that many people in the short amount of time that you’re expected to sometimes!

That being said, don’t forget to set an alarm or two or seven when it’s restock time because I imagine that the bundle will sell out FAST!

Alright, now that we’ve addressed that little problem, please enjoy the photos and summaries below! (They’re actually just copied and pasted from the larger reviews, but I figured this might be easier and more fun for some of you to read).

I’m Shook

I’m Shook:   This is described as a “beautiful medium toned burnt coral”… I’d say that’s pretty spot on but I do think this can look different on some people depending on their natural lip color and skin tone. For the most part, I would consider this to be a medium to medium-dark pinky-reddish-coral. It can pull more warm or cool on different people, but on me it’s neutral to cool toned, depending on the lighting (as you can see above). The texture feels just like Daddy, being the perfect consistency and applying like a dream. Color payoff pretty much looks like it does in the tube, but I feel like it can pull more pink on people with naturally more bright/pigmented lips. I’ve honestly seen this on several people and in a lot of photos and in my opinion, it looks different on everyone, but that’s great because it seems to adapt to be the most flattering shade for your own unique skin tone! Coverage looked a bit patchy when swatched, but when applied on the lips it was completely even and opaque using very little product. Like Daddy, wear time was about 6 hours before I needed a touchup in the center of the lip and a little over 8 hours before I had any fading around the edges of my lips.

Liners:   Because I’m Shook seems to transform on everyone, you can use SO many different liners with it! A couple of my favorite Lip Pencils from MAC are: Ruby Woo (brighter/more blue based and slightly lighter), Redd (slightly lighter and warmer/more orange-red), Follow Your Heart (more blue-based), Chicory (warmer/more brown), Mahogany (deeper and more brown), and Brick (very similar, only a little more of a blue undertone). Anything with a more blue undertone will cool down the color of this lipstick and if it’s also brighter, it will make it appear more pink. If you use a warmer toned or more brown liner, especially if it’s deeper, it will make this warmer and more neutral. You can also use something with a brighter and more orange color to it so bring out the coral tones in this liquid lipstick. It’s very versatile and fun to play around with, not to mention perfect for summer!

Dupes:   Out of all the liquid lipsticks I have, which is A LOT, I couldn’t find one that was a great dupe for I’m Shook. The closest lip product I found in both color and finish is MAC’s Viva Glam I Lipstick, which is only very slightly more cool toned, but it looks totally different and deeper on the lips than it did when I swatched these next to each other on my hand! It is also just a regular lipstick and not a liquid… It is matte, but it’s not going to wear as long as I’m Shook will.

Daddy

Daddy:   The description on the JSC website says that Daddy is a “gorgeous cool toned brown”, which is entirely accurate… It’s a medium to medium-dark, cool toned brown-nude with some slight greige (grey/beige) undertones and a totally matte finish. The texture is super smooth being creamy, but not too thick and liquidy, but not too watery. It applies easily and evenly. It takes a moment to dry, so just be sure not to blot your lips together or it may get a bit patchy but once it’s set, you’re all good! Color payoff is fantastic and it looks just like it does in the tube. However, Daddy can look darker on lighter skin tones and lighter or more nude on darker skin tones. Also, it may pull slightly more warm or cool, depending on your natural undertone. On me, it looks quite cool, but I have a more yellow undertone to my complexion, so that’s to be expected. I like how it looks a little different on everyone, though, because it makes it more easily wearable. Coverage is fully opaque with very little product applied. I got about 6 hours of wear before this began to fade in the center of my lip, but it lasted closer to 8 hours before I noticed any fading or feathering around the edges of my lip. If you apply a liner, you’ll get even more wear time!

Note: Daddy is not in stock at the moment, but I’m hoping it will restock in early May when the bundle does!

Liners:   While a liner isn’t necessary with this formula, if you want a little more definition or contrast, here are a few of my favorite MAC Lip Pencils from lightest to darkest: Stripdown (very slightly lighter & warmer), Stone (cooler/more grey), Cork (almost identical to Daddy), and Chestnut (a little darker). You can also play with color and use one like Plum (slightly darker and more purple-based) or Mahogany (darker, and warmer/more rusty).

Dupes:   Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Sepia Liquid Lipstick is darker, cooler toned and more grey. MAC’s Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in Flesh Stone is lighter and cooler, and Cafe Au Chic, of the same MAC formula, is also cooler toned.

Eclipse

Eclipse:   On the JSC website, this is described as a “blinding pale icy peach” which is pretty accurate! It’s a light, peachy-champagne color with pretty neutral undertones, which makes it flattering on any skin tone! Depending on how heavily you apply it or if you use it dry or damp, it can be anything from a sheer, soft sheen up to a blinding, intense metallic glow. The texture is very buttery so it applies and blends out easily without getting patchy at all. Color payoff looks just like it does in the pan, but may look slightly warmer or cooler depending on your own skin tone… That’s sort of what makes this usable for everyone, though, so it’s a good thing! The coverage ranges from sheer to completely opaque, depending on how you apply it which I will explain below. Wear time was a solid 12 hours before I noticed any fading and that applies to the face, body and eyes! My skin has been a little oily and it’s been humid here too, so I imagine that some people may get an even longer wear time with Eclipse than I did!

Dupes:   The closest thing I found to Eclipse is Crushed Pearl from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Gleam Glow Kit, which is a little more peachy. It’s also no longer being sold on the ABH website or at Sephora, so Eclipse it definitely worth picking up! As far as other Skin Frosts go, Ice cold is lighter and more of an icy pearl color and Princess Cut is more pink.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics x Manny MUA Daddy & I’m Shook Velour Liquid Lipsticks

Jeffree Star Cosmetics’ Velour Liquid Lipsticks are are a formula I hadn’t tried yet, so I figured buying them in the bundle that was released in collaboration with Manny MUA was the perfect way to give them a shot. Both Daddy and I’m Shook are great colors that just about anyone can wear and after testing these for the past week or so, I’ve fallen in love! There are definitely very few brands and formulas of liquid lipstick that I prefer and actually use on a regular basis and I’d have to say that Jeffree Star’s Velour Liquid Lipsticks are now in my top three!

As far as I know, both Daddy and I’m Shook are limited edition for the Manny MUA collaboration and as of right now (4/29/17), only I’m Shook is in stock. It can be purchased on www.jeffreestarcosmetics.com. The individual tube of Daddy is not currently available, nor is the bundle that includes both of these as well as Eclipse Skin Frost but it will be restocked in early May, according to Jeffree’s Instagram. Like other JSC Velour Liquid Lipsticks, these sell for $18 each and contain 5.6 g / 0.19 oz of product. Compared to something like Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks, which sell for $20 and contain 3.2 g / 0.11 oz of product, or MAC’s Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours that cost $21 and contain 5 g / 0.17 oz, you’re getting a great deal with the JSC brand lippies. The Velour Liquid Lipsticks do not contain any paraben or gluten and are also vegan and cruelty free! ❤

If you use the code MANNYMUA it will take 10% off of the products that are part of this collection! Keep in mind that code only works on the these products individually but does not work on the bundle since it’s already offered at a discounted price… What this means is that if you add I’m Shook and Eclipse to your cart along with other JSC products, the 10% will be deducted from those two products only. The individual products in this collab are in stock (except Daddy) but you can’t get them in the bundle until Jeffree Star Cosmetics gets a restock in.

If you’d like to get updates on upcoming posts, chat with me, or get sneak peeks of new products that I’ll be testing and reviewing, please be sure to follow me on twitterinstagram, and snapchat, all @ lesley_makeup! I LOVE hearing from my readers!

The packaging for Daddy and I’m Shook is the same as the other Velour Liquid Lipsticks, but like Eclipse Skin Frost, the colors have been changed. Instead of a pink cap with a rose gold logo, these have a black one with the holographic silver also seen on the Skin Frost compact and packaging for this collection. As you can see, the rose gold text usually seen on the tube itself has also been replaced with the beautiful, multidimensional holographic silver. The boxes for these are just like the one for Eclipse Skin Frost, being black with a textured triangle design and silver text.

At first glance, you may think the tubes for these look big and chunky but they’re actually about the same thickness as any other liquid lipstick or lipgloss. They are shorter, but as I mentioned earlier, they actually contain more product than most other brands with similar formulas. I appreciate this since these take up less room in my makeup bag and drawer! The applicator is a pretty basic doe-foot but it’s tapered and curved a bit so it hugs your lip, making application easy and precise.

After testing these out, I’m officially a major fan of this formula! It feels more liquidy than some other liquid lipsticks, but it’s still creamy and smooth. I actually like the fact that it’s more fluid-like, though, because I feel like it’s easier to apply and spread around without getting any patchiness. You do want to give these a quick shake before applying them to make sure the product is evenly mixed. It mentions that on the box, which is nice since there are other formulas that require the same thing but don’t make it clear! JSC Velour Liquid Lipsticks take about a minute to dry and set (also mentioned on the box), which gives you time to play with it and make sure it’s completely even. Once these are on, they’re not likely to budge! I can’t vouch for it myself, but according to the website, these are kiss-proof and transfer-resistant. I had these on for 6 hours before needing to touch up, mostly in the center of my lip, and that was after eating lunch and having some coffee. Overall, I’d say these have a solid 8 hour wear time. Despite the matte finish and long-wearing formula, these didn’t seem to dry out my lips or get that weird, scrunchy look in the center after having them on for a while, so I am definitely interested in trying more colors of Jeffree Star’s Velour Liquid Lipsticks!

You’ll want to make sure that your lips are nice and smooth before applying these, but you probably already know that! This type of formula can emphasize dry, chapped areas and the natural lines of your lips so you should exfoliate using your favorite lip scrub or maybe even one made by Jeffree Star Cosmetics that can be found here. You can also apply a balm or primer but I recommend wiping off any excess right before you apply your liquid lipstick so it sets properly without sliding off or sheering down. A few of my favorites are MAC’s Prep + Prime Lip, Bite Beauty’s Agave Lip Mask (the one in the squeeze tube), or plain shea butter. Also, don’t forget to drink plenty of water… Hydrated lips are healthy lips!

Without further ado, lets get into the photos and individual reviews!
