Time to move on to the most Boomin’ part of this collection (see what I did there?)… The highlighters! Using loose highlighters might be new to some of you, but these both perform SO well and are really easy to apply and very versatile, so you can use them for several different purposes. I feel like I’m repeating myself by saying this, but both of these highlighters work well on ANY skin tone and they also work well with the other products in this collection. I know I’ve said it in every post for the Shayla x Colourpop collab, but this is one of the most cohesive collections I’ve seen in a long time! I can only think of one or two other collections in the past two or three years that have had products in them that I reach for on a regular basis, and that I use together all the time, so props to you, Shayla and Colourpop!!
So first off, the formulation of the Luster Dust Loose Highlighters is awesome! It’s a very, VERY finely milled type of powder that feels nearly creamy when you go to swatch it. One of the things I like most about these is that you can apply a teeeeeny little bit on a fluffier type of highlighter brush if you want a barely-there, natural type of glow, or you can use a more dense or even a dampened brush to get that mega glowy, metallic kind of highlight. You can also use these as eye shadows (I prefer the damp method on the inner corner and lid), or dust them on top of your lipstick for some glow and shimmer without having to use a gloss. I’ll give you all some more tips for applying these below, along with individual reviews, so keep scrolling down and reading!

Both Boomin’ and Pose are still available to purchase individually from www.colourpop.com. They sell for $7 each and contain 3.1 g / 0.11 oz of product. When compared to something like the loose highlighters from Kylie Cosmetics, there’s slightly less product in the Shayla x Colourpop highlighters, but they also cost half as much. They’re also nearly a quarter of the cost of higher end loose highlighters that you can find at Sephora! As usual, you’re getting a great product from Colourpop without having to go broke!

The packaging for these highlighters follows the purple/lavender and rose gold metallic theme that’s so “Shayla”. On the container itself, you even have rose gold metallic drips or splashes on the lid, as well as a rose gold metallic logo on the clear container. Inside, there’s a sifter, which is typical with most loose powder products. Here’s a little tip for you, though… When you get your highlighter and open the lid, don’t remove the sticker that’s covering the sifter holes! Instead, really press and smooth it down, then take a needle or safety pin and just poke through about a third or half of the sifter holes. That way, you won’t end up with a ton of product coming out and it’s a little easier to travel with that way, plus you won’t get surprised with a big POOF of highlighter when you open it if it gets shaken up too much!
Boomin’
Boomin’ is described as a “peachy gold”. It is a light to medium, mostly warm toned, yellow based peachy golden color. This is wearable by anyone but because it’s the lighter, slightly cooler toned highlighter out of the two, I see most people with fair to medium skin tones reaching for this one if they’re going for a more neutral or no-makeup kind of glow. Of course, like I said, anyone can use this, but it may pull more cool toned and yellow on those of you with dark to deep skin tones. It’s honestly pretty on anyone I’ve seen wear it, which isn’t typical for lighter golden shades of highlighter like this… Most can make deeper skin tones look washed out, but Boomin’ doesn’t do that at all! I don’t know what kind of magic Shayla and Colourpop added to this highlighter, but whatever they did, it works!
The texture is very, very fine and it contains both itty bitty, finely milled glitter particles as well as an even finer type of pearl/shimmer particle. It feels nice on the skin and despite the glittery bits, which usually have a rougher, almost gritty texture in some other highlighters, Boomin’ feels super smooth! It’s actually almost creamy and very easy to blend out. When swatched or applied damp, the color looks exactly as it does in the container and is fully opaque. Applied dry, you can achieve a light glow that is buildable if you desire more pigmentation and coverage. I got well over ten hours of wear with Boomin’ and it actually looked prettier and prettier as the day went on! It just melts into the skin for a gorgeous glow, especially if you use a setting spray when you’re done applying your makeup!

Pose
Pose is described as a “warm copper”. It’s a medium, warm toned, coppery rose gold that’s absolutely stunning! Like everything else in this collection, it can be worn by anyone, but will definitely add a little more color to your skin if you have a skin tone that falls between fair to light-medium… That said, I see this being the perfect summer highlighter, especially when paired with, or even lightly dusted over a bronzer, and that applies to fair to light skin along with everyone else! That’s actually how I’ve been wearing this. Most of the time I’m spray tanned and fall into the light-medium to medium skin tone range, so this is GORGEOUS if I just pop it on with a little bronzer when I’m going for a more natural, sun kissed type of look. Pose is also going to be super flattering if you have a tanned or a medium dark to deep skin tone, since more coppery/rose gold highlighters will add a more colorful glow to the face and not make you feel washed out at all.
Like Boomin’, Pose feels very buttery and blends out like a dream. If you apply it damp or pack it onto the lid using your finger, the color will look just like it does in the jar. If you’re going for a more natural glow, you can apply this dry, using a light hand and blending it out to diffuse it so it barely shows up, or you can apply it dry with more product on your brush so it adds a little more color and coverage. It’s a very buildable highlighter, so I suggest starting out with less and going from there, especially if have a fair to light skin tone and don’t want too much color right away. Also like Boomin’, I got between ten and twelve hours of wear with this highlighter, and it looked glowier and more gorgeous as the hours ticked by!

Application Tips: You can use the Luster Dust Loose Highlighters either damp or dry, depending on how metallic or intense you want it to look and what area of the face you’re applying it to.
For the face, a few of my favorite brushes to use are the A23 from Anastasia Beverly Hills, or the M510, R36, R31, or Y14 from Morphe… All of those brushes are fluffy, tapered highlighter brushes that you can use for a dry or damp application. You can also use any type of fan brush for a more targeted, precise application, either dry or damp.
On the eyes, any type of flat shader brush will work for the lid, but I prefer a synthetic flat brush when applying it damp, like a MAC 242 or 248, or something like the #18 Brush from ABH. When applying it to your inner corner, I also suggest a damp application so you don’t get any fallout into your tear duct area, and you can do that using any tiny little brush that fits into the corner of your eye.
When you’re doing a damp application, you’ll want to get some product in the lid (like in the photo shown above), spray your brush with your choice of setting spray, and dip it into what’s in the lid… That way you aren’t adding moisture into the rest of the container where the sifter is, which can make it all clump up, becoming difficult to use. Another option is to get the highlighter onto your brush, then spray the brush before applying it to the face or eyes.
When you’re doing a dry application, the Luster Dust Loose Highlighters are very buildable, but a little bit goes a long way! I like to start off with just a light dusting of product, then build it up or I can end up looking a liiiiittle bit too glam for a casual daytime look! Also, these highlighters will stick to any damp or tacky areas of the face (the reason behind me deducting one point in the Application category of my ratings), so you’re probably going to want to add a little powder to set your foundation and concealer first. Otherwise you might get an intense, metallic stripe wherever you try to apply this, and it can be difficult to blend out when that happens!
